First Game of the 2013 Season.....10 months post surgery

It's been 10 months since Kaitlynn's surgery and she just played in her first official HS game since that surgery. She played in some summer scrimmages, but those weren't as intense as the real deal. She did well and even scored a goal. Her coach has her playing at mid-field instead of defense. She called a pass back and immediately shot it in over the goalies head (with her left foot even! She's right footed and her right leg was the injured one). She played a strong game and only had one moments hesitation when she and another girl hit legs, but she recovered quickly and rocked the field. I'm proud of how far she has come! She's a solid player with a passion for the game and her teammates. She is also playing with her little sister for the first time ever, which I love.

If you're recovering...keep at it! Keep working hard, keep being disciplined...It'll pay off.

  1. Hi Kirstin glad to hear the good news! My daughter is just about 6 months post op. She still can not play soccer but she still is involved. She helps coach a town travel U 10 girls team and the U6 clinic. She wants to be around the game she loves. She is working out and getting stronger. Her muscles are coming back. Dr says she would be back playing late Winter 2014 or early Spring 2014 and will need to wear the brace through the Spring season. Its hard on her. She feels better and stronger but she still can not play. Her U14 team really has not been to supported. She missed the Spring season and now the Fall season too. Its like they forgot about her. Its such a long recovery period that people just do not get it. She sometimes feels bad about that. After we get the ok from her Dr she will start working out with a personal trainer sometime this Winter. We want her as strong as she can be when she goes on that Field again. Thanks for the update.

    1. Gosh, sorry, I just now saw this....I was glad to hear about your daughter. We just finished our HS season and it was a great one as it was Kaitlynn's senior year. They finished first in league, 3rd in districts and made it to state (though lost the first game). In the last few minutes of the last game, she pulled a tendon in the same leg she had surgery. She was quite emotional and we went back to the surgeon. He feels it is strong and stable but is requesting an MRI just to be sure. We are praying that it was just the tendon he feels caused the pain. Ugghh..It sure is hard for them during that recovery time to be away from what they love.

  2. You are courages but you should rethink about playing. Thats a huge knee brace you wear it has got to affect your speed and mobility wish the besr no matter what you decide to do dear!

    1. Jim, Surprisingly these braces are approved for play and don't hinder her play at all...they are custom fit. This was her senior year and she wanted to play. She had a great season and in the 2 years since surgery has done remarkably well, even playing indoor soccer now without the brace.

Thanks for stopping by and taking time to read about my journey. I hope that something I have written will encourage you if you or someone you know is walking this same journey.
